"On a Life
Flight response to a scene call for a patient on a steep slope,
our closest landing zone was more than 300 yards below the accident
scene. We exited the aircraft and took with us only the essentials
which included our stretcher and a StatPack. As we climbed the
slope I was carrying the StatPack on my back. The shoulder straps
were easy to adjust and with the heavier items in the pack situated
close to my body, the weight was balanced just right. The pack
felt just as comfortable as my own backpacking pack." |

"On July 2,
2003 Portneuf Life Flight received a call for a patient somewhere
deep in the back country of north western Wyoming. We searched
the area for approximately 20 minutes and were running low on
fuel. At the last minute, we spotted a flare at the south end
of a shallow lake surrounded by trees, with no apparent landing
zone. We set down lightly in the lake with the rotors still
running. I jumped out with my StatPack and defibrillator, heading
for the patient. Once the patient was stable and his heart rate
was under control, we had to figure a way out of there. I had
the option of trying to find a decent landing zone in the dark
for the helicopter or to pack him out on a horse. The horse
option won and we started to hike. The comfort and stability
of the Golden Hour was very valuable. It allowed me to have
my hands free to assist the patient and monitor his heart rate
on the move.
We have used StatPacks for over a year and have loved them.
Their upright position in the helicopter allow us to access
our gear without having to unfold the pack in an awkward way.
The newest Golden hour appears to be even better than the first.
We are really excited about the new IV and Drug Modules.
These packs has been valuable assets to our program." |
